The Waitlist

When is the waitlist created?
Our waitlist is typically created in May. To be added to our waitlist you must formally accept a waitlist offer.

How likely is it that I will ultimately receive an offer if I am waitlisted?
While there are more students on the waitlist than we will have positions available, it is common every year for some waitlisted students to receive offers. The number varies year to year. In some years, many offers are made. In others, few are made. Unfortunately, the process is unpredictable, and we make no guarantees.

How will you contact me if I am selected for an offer of admission?
We will contact you by phone, email, or both. We recommend you have voicemail activated and a means to check email if you are travelling.

Does the composition of the waitlist change at any time?
Yes. On July 1, any waitlisted student who becomes a firm acceptance at another Ontario law school must be removed from our waitlist (this is a province-wide rule). Candidates with accepted offers at law schools outside of Ontario may remain on our waitlist through the summer, if desired.

Do you reveal the number of students on the waitlist?
No we do not, as the number can change. For example, some students elect to be removed from the waitlist due to a change of plans.

Can I find out my position on the Waitlist? Do you “rank” students on the waitlist?
No. We do not rank students on the list. If a position becomes available, the most suitable candidate on the waitlist at that time is offered the seat.

When are waitlisted students likely to receive offers?
Between June and August; however, most waitlist offers are made in July.

What if I am on Western’s waitlist but then decide to go to another law school?
Please let us know as a courtesy to other waitlisted students, so they may be considered in your place.

Are candidates ever removed from the waitlist without requesting it?
Occasionally, if warranted, a review is conducted in mid-August to determine whether some candidates on the waitlist are unlikely to receive an offer of admission due to the passage of time and size of the waitlist. Rather than give those candidates an unrealistic expectation of receiving an offer, they are notified they will be removed from the list.

When is the latest that an offer of admission may be made?
It is possible for an offer to be made right up until Labour Day weekend. If you have not heard from us by Labour Day however, it means that we were unable to offer you a position, but we would welcome another application from you in the future.
