Research

Legal scholarship underpins our understanding of the rule of law in society and is vital for enhancing the development of innovative solutions to emerging problems. Western Law’s faculty members are recognized as leading Canadian and global scholars in a wide variety of public and private law fields, producing research that has impact among judges, academics, practitioners, policy-makers and the broader community. As a result, they have received numerous grants and awards.

Western Law is home to two research groups: the Tort Law Research Group and the Public Law Research Group. These groups have hosted world-renowned speakers, colloquia and conferences, and have enriched the Faculty’s research atmosphere through collaboration and intellectual exchange. Western Law also hosts the Canada–United States Law Institute (CUSLI), an active forum for the discussion of legal issues arising in the Canada-U.S. context. Three well-respected academic journals are based at Western Law: the Canadian Journal of Law & Jurisprudence, the Canada-U.S. Law Journal and the Western Journal of Legal Studies.
