Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Decolonization and Accessibility
We are committed to pursuing meaningful change as we work together to advance equity, diversity, inclusion, decolonization and accessibility (EDIDA) at Western Law. Our goal is to foster a culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
We recognize the longstanding lack of diversity within the legal profession and are working to ensure our future graduating classes better reflect the communities they will serve. We encourage our students to appreciate diverse perspectives and identify ways that EDIDA can be advanced in the law, legal institutions and their own practice.
Collaboration is a cornerstone of our work to advance EDIDA, including with the Student Legal Society, student-run clubs, faculty, staff, alumni, Western University’s Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Western University’s Office of Indigenous Initiatives, Western University’s Centre for Teaching and Learning, and community and advocacy groups.
Our EDIDA initiatives are guided by Western University’s EDIDA Strategic Plan: Advancing Inclusive Excellence, Western Law’s Strategic Plan 2024-2029, the final reports of Western Law’s Anti-Racism Working Group and the President’s Anti-Racism Working Group. and Western University’s Indigenous Strategic Plan.
Our recent and ongoing initiatives are organized by the five strategic priority areas of Western University’s EDIDA Strategic Plan: Advancing Inclusive Excellence:
- Diverse representation and engagement
- Inclusive excellence in teaching and learning
- Inclusive excellence in research and innovation
- Safe, accessible, and inclusive spaces and experiences
- System-wide capacity building and cultural change
We have also highlighted our Indigenous initiatives, our class profile, and resources and support available for members of the Western Law community.
