About Us
For 75 years, Western Law has offered a best-in-class legal education in one of the most supportive professional learning environments in Canada. We prepare the lawyers and leaders of tomorrow to navigate the complex global challenges of our times and drive meaningful change.
Western Law combines a rigorous legal education with an exceptional student experience. Our small class size and collegial environment foster lifelong connections, offering support from peers and personalized attention from professors and staff. We are committed to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment where students, faculty and staff feel valued and empowered to succeed.
Our Juris Doctor (JD) program merges critical knowledge, skills and experiences that help students explore the limitless ways they can make an impact with a legal education. With eight curricular streams—Business Law; Criminal Law; Government and Public Administration; Intellectual Property, Information and Technology; International Law; Labour, Employment and Social Justice; Litigation; and Universal or Specialty Practice—students can tailor their degree to their interests and confidently discover their path. We offer students ample opportunities to gain professional experience during their studies through our six on-campus legal clinics, for-credit and co-curricular advocacy programs, Summer After 1L (SA1L) program, pro-bono volunteer roles and legal research opportunities.
In addition to our JD program, we offer two undergraduate combined-degree programs with the Ivey Business School (the HBA/JD) and the Faculty of Engineering (the BESc/JD), and two dual degree programs with exchange partners (the JD/BCL and the JD/LLM). Our graduate programs include Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Studies in Law (MSL), and a PhD program, as well as two graduate combined degrees in Business (JD/MBA) and Earth Sciences (JD/MSc).
As a key part of a leading U15 research-intensive university, Western Law is a hub of legal scholarship and academic exchange. Our accomplished faculty—40 full-time and several dozen adjunct professors—are nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their respective fields. Our eight faculty-led research groups drive critical collaboration, debate and innovation, positioning Western Law as a leader in advancing intellectual inquiry and scholarship.
