October 01, 2024
Recognizing the importance of knowledge sharing and mentorship for aspiring female lawyers, Lerners LLP has generously donated $50,000 to establish the Lerners LLP Women in Law Lecture at Western Law.
This five-year lecture series will showcase successful female legal professionals who will inspire and empower the next generation. Distinguished speakers will share valuable insights, experiences and expertise, enriching the professional growth of students and other attendees within the legal community.
“We’re thrilled that Lerners LLP has founded the new Women in Law Lecture at Western Law,” said Professor Erika Chamberlain, faculty advisor for the lecture series. “Lerners LLP has a long history of promoting strong women leaders, and we’re grateful to partner with them in support of the next generation of women in the legal profession.”
This series will encourage open discussions about the challenges women face in law, equipping students with valuable strategies for their future careers. The initiative aims to act as a catalyst for greater gender equity and representation within the legal profession.
The Lerners LLP Women in Law Lecture reflects the shared commitment of Western Law and Lerners LLP to fostering diversity and empowerment of women through amplifying the voices of accomplished women in the legal profession.
“At Lerners LLP, we are proud to have been the first law firm to achieve gender parity at the partnership level, and we currently have an all-female-led management team. Investing in the Women in Law Lecture Series aligns seamlessly with our core values of supporting diversity and inclusion within our firm and the broader legal community,” said Yola Ventresca, Managing Partner at Lerners LLP.
“By partnering with the Faculty of Law at Western University, we contribute not only to the professional development of students but also to the ongoing advocacy for systemic change in our profession. This initiative reflects our belief that a diverse team enhances our ability to serve our clients effectively and enriches the legal profession as a whole.”
The inaugural Women in Law Lecture will be held at Western Law on January 29, 2025, featuring the Honourable Sheilah Martin, Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada.
