Andrea Yau and Jesse Mighton celebrate their victory in the BLG Client Counselling competition
The annual Borden Ladner Gervais LLP Client Counselling Competition was held at the law school on November 16. The competition is inspired by, and linked to, the American Bar Association (ABA) Client Counseling Competition, which began in California in 1969 and now involves almost 100 schools from across Canada, the United States and beyond.
The general aim of the competition is to encourage and assist with the development of interviewing and counselling skills. This year’s competition drew participation from a record number of Western Law students. The theme for this year’s competition was “White Collar Crime”.
From the initial rounds, five teams were selected as finalists. They were: Andrea Yau and Jesse Mighton, Cassandra Tarrataca and Ryan Venables, Adam Somogyi and Mike Lickver, Kathryn Shani and Brittany Taylor and Ronald Fichter and Katie Sokol.
After a very close final round (with the final client played by Pamela Vlasic, a member of the winning team last year) Andrea Yau and Jesse Mighton emerged as the winners of this year’s competition. They will go on as Western’s entry in the regional rounds of the ABA Client Counselling Competition held in February. Western Law would like to thank Borden Ladner Gervais LLP for their continued support of this competition.
