Track Your Next Steps!

Step 1 – RSVP to our Events in March - Now Closed

Thank you to everyone who attended our Welcome Events in March.

Step 2 – Join our Class of 2028 Facebook Group

Join our Western Law Class of 2028 group on Facebook today by visiting law.uwo.ca/fb28. There you can connect with upper year student ambassadors and future fellow classmates!

If you are requesting access to the Facebook group using a different name than the name with which you applied, or using a pseudonym, please contact lawapp@uwo.ca to inform us so we know who you are and can approve your request to join the group.

Step 3 – Come Visit!

Law Building tours will be offered on Welcome Day, but you are also free to visit in person for a tour by contacting us at lawapp@uwo.ca or 519-661-3347.

If you can’t visit in person, please visit this website for information on our virtual Law Building tour, virtual campus tours, and the City of London.

Step 4 – Accept Your Offer

Please respond to your offer of admission through the Ontario Law School Application Service (OLSAS) by the date indicated in your offer letter. It may take a couple days for your offer to appear in the OLSAS portal. If you don’t see it, simply log back in a day later.

To accept your offer:

    • Log in to your online OLSAS application.
    • In the Application Links menu select Choices/Offers.
    • Choose the Western University offer of admission and you will be taken to the Response to Offer screen.
    • Firmly or provisionally accept your Western Law offer.

Only one offer of admission may be accepted at a time. When you firmly accept an offer, your other choices will be marked as “No Further Consideration.” If you provisionally accept, you must indicate which other choices you wish to remain active. Provisional acceptances to first-year programs will automatically become firm on July 1.

Step 5 – Arrange for Housing

For links to all housing options at Western, please visit housing.uwo.ca. You can also view this document for an overview of Western's upper-year residence options.

The application for upper-year residence is now available on the myHousing Portal for September 2025 to April 2026. Students have the option to select the option on their application for the full academic year or fall or winter term only. Limited spaces are available in Alumni House, Lambton Hall, London Hall and Clare Hall (women only), where all students are provided with a single room. The buildings closest to the law school are Clare Hall and London Hall.

Residence offers will be made on a first-come-first-served basis, continuing through the winter and spring based on availability. Please note that the meal plan is optional for upper-year students living in Alumni House, London Hall and Lambton Hall. Rate information is available on Western’s Residence website.

University Apartments, consisting of Beaver Hall and Ausable Hall, provide another on-campus housing option for upper-year students. For those seeking off-campus accommodations, the Off-Campus Housing Services maintain active rental listings of housing available throughout London. You can also book an appointment to speak with a staff member who can help review your lease agreement and answer any questions about living off campus.

For students coming from outside of Ontario, Western’s Summer Off-Campus Housing Assistants provide invaluable support: from May to August, they conduct personal property viewings on your behalf and offer guidance about off-campus housing, London services and amenities.

Additionally, many incoming law students organize housing with classmates during the spring and summer through the class Facebook page – a collaborative approach worth exploring.

Step 6 – Pay Your Tuition Deposit by June 1

In order to secure your seat in the class, a non-refundable tuition deposit of $500.00 is due by June 1. This deposit will be applied towards your first instalment of tuition fees. However, the deposit will be forfeited if you subsequently withdraw your acceptance or if you do not register at Western Law as expected. For fee payment methods please visit the Office of the Registrar.

Your Detailed Statement of Account in the Finances section of your Western Student Center (student.uwo.ca) will not show the $500.00 tuition deposit is owing because you have not been matriculated as a student at this time.

Once you have paid your deposit and it has been posted to your account, you will see the sum paid (e.g., $-500.00) under Account Summary in the Finances section of your Western Student Center account. You may consider this acknowledgement that Western has received your deposit. Once generated, the online Detailed Statement of Account becomes your receipt.

Step 7 – Order Your Parking Pass beginning June 15

If you will be coming to campus with your car on a regular basis, we strongly recommend purchasing a parking pass.  Only passes purchased through Western’s system are valid. Parking passes go on sale June 15 and they sell out QUICKLY! Please visit this website for more information and to purchase your permit.

Step 8 – Plan Your Finances

We are committed to ensuring that you have access to adequate financial resources to complete your program of study. Funding is provided through various forms of financial assistance. Merit-based (scholarship) funding recognizes and rewards students for their excellent academic achievement. Need-based funding (bursaries, awards, and work study) is distributed to students on the basis of demonstrated financial need. In the 2023/24 academic year, 40% of Western law students were awarded over 1.5 million dollars in bursaries, awards, and scholarships.

If you have any questions about any of the following items, please note we cannot assist you directly.  You should reach out to the Office of the Registrar at this link to reach financial services staff.

Tuition

Tuition fees for 2025/26 are expected to be approximately $20,151 for Ontario residents, and $22,215 for out-of-province students, plus supplemental fees of $1690. The supplemental fees include Student Activity and Organization Fees, health and dental plans, and a London Transit bus pass. You can expect to spend between $700 and $1,400 on textbooks, depending on whether you choose to buy used, new, or both.

Entrance Scholarships

Dean of Law entrance scholarships in amounts up to $25,000 (continuing) will be awarded on the basis of academic merit between February and May. Named entrance scholarships, which are listed on the Western Law website, will be awarded in the summer.  Criteria for named entrance scholarships may include academic merit, financial need, extra-curricular activities, leadership, entrepreneurship, and/or public service.  All students are also eligible for other awards distributed during law school.  Please visit our Awards and Scholarships webpage to learn more.

Bursaries

To be considered for financial assistance, please complete the Admission Bursary Application online, which opens in early-February. You may apply for an Admission Bursary before you make a decision about accepting our offer. The value of bursaries awarded depends upon individual circumstances. If you are eligible for an Admission Bursary the funds can be used toward the first instalment of tuition.

The Admission Bursary application will close in July.  If you do not submit an Admission Bursary application by that deadline, you will still have another opportunity:  the online Fall/Winter 2025-26 Bursary application will be available in August.  If you receive bursary funding then, the funds will be applied toward your second installment of tuition.

If you submit an Admission Bursary application by July, you are not able to complete the Fall/Winter Bursary application, as only one application is necessary

To access the bursary application, you will need your Western Student Number, which is printed above your name on your offer of admission letter. For more information please visit the Office of the Registrar’s Bursaries webpage. Western’s central Student Financial Services Office will inform you directly about the result of your bursary application. Bursary applications are not processed in the law school.

Student Lines of Credit

Most of the major chartered banks in Canada offer lines of credit for Law students. Typically, only interest on the loan is payable while you are a full-time student. Rates and conditions will vary at each institution. For complete details, please contact the financial institutions directly.

If you require a letter confirming your enrolment at Western Law for your bank or another service provider, please complete the form on our Request for Letter of Enrolment webpage. Please note confirmation of enrolment letters can only be provided after you firmly accept your offer of admission.

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)

Both the federal and provincial governments provide interest-free loans and grants to eligible Ontario residents who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and protected persons. Visit the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) website at osap.gov.on.ca to apply or for further information. If you live outside Ontario you can obtain information about government student loans by contacting the appropriate government office in your province.

Work Study

Law students may also be approved for Work Study positions. First-year law students who submit an Admission Bursary Application may request to have the work study option added once the regular Financial Assistance Profile Application becomes available in early August.  For more information please visit the Office of the Registrar’s Work Study webpage.

Step 9 – Submit Your Final Transcripts by June 30

To finalize your registration in the Faculty of Law, you must ensure your final transcripts are submitted to OLSAS by June 30 (as per the OLSAS Application Guide), or as soon as they are available. Final transcripts must include all academic work completed and, if applicable, confirmation of degree conferred.

If you graduated in 2024 or earlier, the transcript you submitted with your application is sufficient.

If your degree will be conferred in the fall of 2025, a final transcript showing your degree must be submitted directly to the Law Admissions Office in the fall.

Step 10 – Pay your Tuition in August

Your tuition will be assessed in July and the first installment of tuition will be due in mid-August.  Please visit your Detailed Statement of Account in your Student Center.

If you have anticipated financial aid that has not yet been deducted from the total tuition owing, you may pay the amount owing LESS the financial aid amount you are receiving.

Please note:  Tuition payments must be received by the Office of the Registrar by the due date indicated on your statement of account.  Failure to pay tuition fees will result in financial and academic penalties. For fee payment methods, and other information relating to tuition, please visit the Office of the Registrar.

If you have any specific questions or concerns about your account please contact Student Financial Services via the Virtual Helpline (https://studentservices.uwo.ca/callBack/) as tuition and financial aid are dealt with centrally by the Office of the Registrar.  We do not have access to your financial account in the law school.

Final Step – Prepare for September

Enjoy your summer!

We would like you to come to law school refreshed and energetic, so enjoy your summer. We will have plenty to keep you busy when the fall arrives!

Orientation

Final details about September Orientation, as well as the organization of Small Groups, will be provided the last week of August. Orientation runs from September 2-5, and consists of mandatory academic programming during the day and social programming during the evening. A full Orientation Guide will be shared with you during the last week of August so you know what to expect. Classes officially start the week of September 8.

Annual Induction Ceremony

Beginning law school is a special milestone, marking both the achievement of a goal and the start of a new challenge. We celebrate this occasion with you on your first day with a formal event that welcomes you to the law school and the legal profession. The program begins with greetings from the Dean, followed by a keynote speaker, who addresses the privileges and duties that being a lawyer entails, as well as greetings from other guests, and lunch. You will be asked to affirm your commitment to professionalism at law school by reciting and signing our Professionalism Pledge, and you will also be presented with a gift (a Western Law backpack) commemorating this important achievement. Business attire is expected.

Classes

Since all classes are mandatory in first year, there is no need to select courses in advance. Our Student Services staff will register you in your courses. You can expect to receive your Small Group assignment, class list, and book list, on or before Tuesday, September 2. Classes typically run Monday through Friday, with no days off. You will have time to purchase your books before or during Orientation week.

Western Email Address

Web access to your Western email is available at mail.uwo.ca. In order to access your UWO email address, ensure your Western Identity has been activated (as indicated in the confirmation email you received from Western in November). Instructions are also available on the Western Technology Services webpage.

Your OUAC number is the six-digit number you received from OLSAS preceded by “2025-“. Once your acceptance has been confirmed you may expect us to communicate with you through your Western email account, so please check it regularly.

Western ONECards

If you are new to Western, you must obtain a Western ONECard, which functions as your identification card for all campus services. It also serves as your London Transit bus pass.  Please visit this website for instructions about obtaining your ONEcard during the summer.

Pre-Law Reading

We are often asked what you can read in advance to prepare for law school. While we do not require any advance reading, we offer the following suggestions if you wish to get a head start in August before classes begin:

  • S.M. Waddams, Introduction to the Study of Law, 8th ed (Thomson Reuters, 2016)
  • Allan Hutchinson, The Law School Book: Succeeding at Law School, 3rd ed (Irwin Law, 2009). Please keep in mind if you read Hutchinson’s book that there have been advances in the Legal Research area (Chapter 7) since this book was published, which will be covered in your Legal Research, Writing & Advocacy course.

Textbooks

Information will be provided in August.

Opting out of Health Care Coverage

If you have other health care coverage and you wish to opt out of the coverage provided by Western, please visit this University Student Council website for more information. Click on the “Visit Purple Care” link on that page.
