Community Initiatives
Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU)
YOU is a London organization that helps youth become contributing members of the community through education and employment. ADR Interns facilitate conflict resolution training workshops at YOU. The workshop applies skills on which mediation and negotiation are based to potential conflict in the workplace. Workshop participants engage in theoretical classroom learning as well as hands on activities and discussion.
Leads Employment Services
Leads Employment is an organization operating in London and surrounding areas that provides skill-development and placement assistance for people with disabilities or other employment-related barriers. ADR Interns conduct conflict resolution workshops with Leads participants, focusing on building communication skills and discussing personal conflict resolution.
810 Court
Mediation Interns attend the London Courthouse every week and speak to community members applying for or defending peace bond applications under s. 810 of the Criminal Code. Parties involved in peace bond disputes may wish to find a non-binding alternative, where they can:
- be more actively engaged in the outcome, instead of having a Justice of the Peace impose terms and restrictions,
- develop a more tailored solution to their situation, or
- avoid the formal binding commitment of a peace bond or the potential sanctions of a peace bond breach.
If both parties are open to mediation, and subject to approval of Crown counsel, they can forgo or adjourn their peace bond applications and come to a mutual agreement with assistance from the DRC.
