Neyers Speaks to Oxford Obligations Discussion Group

On June 4, 2012, Professor Jason Neyers gave an invited lecture entitled "Reconceptualizing the Tort of Public Nuisance" at the University of Oxford. The lecture was to the Oxford Obligations Discussion Group, which provides a forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas and research in all areas of private law, particularly the core areas of the law of obligations (torts, contract, trusts and unjust enrichment). The thesis of Neyers's lecture was that, in distinction to modern judicial thinking, the tort of public nuisance is conceptually different from the crime of the same name, and therefore has a different scope of protection for claimants. The lecture was attended by faculty and graduate students from Oxford, University College London, and McGill.
