Wade Wright joined Western Law as an Assistant Professor in July 2016. His primary areas of research interest are Canadian and comparative constitutional law, with a focus on federalism, shared and dialogic theories of constitutional interpretation, and extrajudicial constitutionalism. He also has active research interests in administrative law, Crown (government) liability, and law and sexuality.

Wade’s research has been published in journals in both Canada and abroad, including the University of British Columbia Law Review; the International Journal of Law, Policy and the Family; the Supreme Court Law Review; and the Osgoode Hall Law Journal. He is the co-author, with Peter W. Hogg and Patrick Monahan, of Liability of the Crown, 4th ed. (Carswell, 2011), the leading treatise about Crown liability in Canada, which has been cited by courts across the country, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He has provided legal commentary to the media, and has presented his research in lectures, workshops and conferences both nationally and internationally, including at the University of Ottawa, Columbia Law School, Osgoode Hall Law School, and Yale Law School.

Wade holds law degrees from Columbia Law School (JSD), the University of Cambridge (LLM), and Osgoode Hall Law School (LLB). He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2004, after which he practiced civil and public law litigation at Blake, Cassels and Graydon LLP in Toronto, taught courses as an Associate in Law at Columbia Law School, and was a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto. He also clerked for Chief Justice McLachlin at the Supreme Court of Canada. He has received numerous awards, scholarships and fellowships, including the Osgoode Hall Gold Medal, the Paul Martin Sr. Scholarship, the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship, the Viscount Bennett Fellowship, and the SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship.
