The annual Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG) LLP Client Counselling Competition was held at the law school on November 15, 2010. The competition encourages and assists with the development of interviewing and counselling skills and emphasizes the need to train students to be effective counselors in the law office, dealing with both the legal and non-legal concerns of clients

This year's theme was “Professional Responsibility of Lawyers and Judges”. From the initial round, five teams were selected as finalists; Rami Pandher and Eric Katzman, Sam Ip and Lauren Chen, Rob Baldeo and Alex Papaiconomou, Matt Hickey and Carolyn Filgiano and Jonathan Thoburn and Blake Pronk. After a very close final round, Jonathan Thoburn and Blake Pronk emerged as the winning team of this year’s internal competition.

The second and third place teams were Rami Pander and Eric Katzman and Rob Baldeo and Alex Papaiconomou, respectively.

Jonathan and Blake will represent Western at the regional round of the ABA Client Counselling Competition on February 19, 2011. This year the regional round is being hosted by Western Law. It will draw participation from 10 law schools from across Ontario and the U.S.

Western Law would like to thank Borden Ladner Gervais for their generous support of this competition.
