The 2011 Cherniak Cup

November 22, 2011 - The final round of the 2011 Cherniak Cup, Western Law's internal trial advocacy competition, took place on November 21. The competition was presided over by Madam Justice Helen Rady of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and scored by Andrea Plumb of Lerners LLP.

Lerners LLP Cup tightly contested

October 12, 2011 - Ninety-five competitors - one of the largest entry pools ever - took part in the 2011 Lerners LLP Cup, Western Law's internal upper-year appellate advocacy competition. At the end of a skillfully argued final round, Sarah Martens was named Best Oralist.

Legal Ethics and Professionalism Moot

April 23, 2024 - Lauren Dalton and Tanya Jawa have won the second annual Lenczner Slaght Advocacy Competition in Legal Ethics and Professionalism. The competition was sponsored by Lenczner Slaght Royce Smith Griffin LLP, a Toronto firm that has been consistently recognized as one of Canada's premier litigation practices. The competition featured 18 first-year students appealing the Supreme Court of Canada's decision in R. v. Cunningham, a case about whether a criminal defence lawyer can unilaterally withdraw from representing his or her client for non-payment of fees.
