Disclosure of Student Information to Database Vendors for Educational Programs

While in law school, law students have complimentary access to a variety of legal information products. Several publishers, including LexisNexis Canada, Carswell (Thomson Reuters), and CCH Canadian Limited (Wolters Kluwer) operate educational programs whereby law students are entitled to a free password which allows students access to case reports, legislation, and other legal materials electronically.

Some or all of these vendors check periodically to verify that individuals who have registered for an educational account are eligible to do so. The University of Western Ontario assists in this verification process. At least once a year the University sends a list of students currently enrolled in the Faculty of Law to any of the above vendors who request this information. The only information provided to the vendor is the student's name and year in the law program.

It is the student's choice whether or not to register with any of the vendors. Students are encouraged to read the user agreements and privacy policies of the vendors before registering online.
